Slit-like tears of the skin

A silicon deficiency can affect the health of the skin and lead to various problems, including increased susceptibility to skin cracking.

Silicon is an important trace element needed for the production of collagen and elastin in the skin. Collagen is a protein responsible for skin firmness and elasticity, while elastin is responsible for skin elasticity and tone.

A lack of silicon can lead to a decrease in the production of collagen and elastin in the skin. This can cause the skin to lose firmness and elasticity and become more prone to cracking. In particular, cracks can occur in areas where the skin is subjected to a lot of stress, such as the hands, feet or abdomen during pregnancy.

These cracks are often called stretch marks or stretch marks. They occur when the connective tissue of the skin is overstretched and the elasticity is not sufficient to withstand the stresses. A silicon deficiency can contribute to the connective tissue becoming weaker and the skin cracks more easily.

It is important to have a balanced diet and ensure adequate intake of silicon to support skin health and reduce the risk of skin cracking. Foods such as whole grains, legumes, nuts, seeds and green vegetables naturally contain silicon and can be incorporated into the diet. If needed, dietary supplements containing silicon can also be taken. However, it is important to consult a doctor or nutritionist before taking supplements.

It is important to note, however, that a silicon deficiency alone may not be the only cause of skin cracking. Other factors such as genetic predisposition, hormonal changes, rapid weight gain or loss and poor skin elasticity may also play a role. A holistic approach to skin care, including a healthy diet, adequate hydration, proper skin care and protecting the skin from excessive stretching, is therefore important to minimise the risk of skin cracking.
